Calm and Comfortable, at the Dentist? | Chinook Mall Family Dental Clinic

Calm and Comfortable, at the Dentist?

Many of us have suffered traumatic dental experiences in the past or have a low tolerance for pain. Fear of going to the dentist is very common among kids and adults alike and can stop us seeking dental treatment when we need it. At Chinook Mall Family Dental Clinic we want to ensure that all our patients have a comfortable experience with us. Therefore we offer Sedation Dentistry for all dental procedures.

Our sedation dentistry method does not involve an injection of any kind. Our sedation is achieved orally in pill format, so it is easy and painless. Oral Sedation is the most common form of anti anxiety medication used for majority of patients. The choice of drug, dosage and timing is decided by our trained team members and Dr. Charchuk. The oral pill will take effect almost immediately, helping to calm and relax you and keep you unaware as your treatment is completed.

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

No pain

The main basis of dental phobia is a patient’s fear of experiencing undue pain because of the sensitive nature of dental procedures. If you choose to undertake this service, you will not experience any pain during a session.

The session is quicker

With dental sedation, your time spent in the chair is much shorter, because you will not be moving around, or struggling to keep your fear under control during your dentistry session. This means that your dentist will be able to complete the session without having to worry about your reaction or being too focused on working slowly to accommodate your anxiety.

You won’t experience fear or anxiety

Seeing as you won’t be experiencing pain, your anxiety levels will be lowered when you opt for dental sedation. Apart from the emotional relaxation, the medication will also help to put you in a relaxed state of mind, ensuring you don’t experience any trauma during the session.

You can still respond to the dentist

It is important to remember that you are still awake during your sedated dentistry session. The medication only serves to make you more relaxed and at ease. This means that if the dentist has to ask you any questions during the procedure, you will be able to provide lucid and accurate answers. It also means that should you need to talk to the dentist at any point, you can.

You won’t remember a thing

The sedative that will be administered will also ensure that you won’t remember the session. This has the added benefit that you will not have any bad memories or associations about your dentistry session, which in turn will help alleviate your phobia to some degree.

Side effects are very few with oral sedation. It can cause dry mouth, headaches, dizziness and nausea in few cases. There will be a review of possible side effects with you prior to the procedure during your thorough check up and consultation. You’ll also need to make arrangements for someone to take you home on the day of your appointment, as the sedative effects will not be reversed in enough time for you to drive safely.

Since no single method is best for every patient, a thorough consultation at our Chinook Mall dental office with Dr. Charchuk will help relieve your nervousness. We take Sedation Dentistry very seriously and consider our patient’s safety our top priority. Our team is here to make a true difference to the practice of dentistry and do what it takes to make our patients feel comfortable and at ease.
