Chinook Mall Family Dental Cares About Your Wisdom Teeth

Chinook Mall Family Dental is committed to your health and well being. An impacted wisdom tooth can often cause pain, swelling and difficulty opening your mouth. Ignoring these symptoms can lead to bacterial infections. Many patients wait until they absolutely have to, to get wisdom teeth removed. It is recommended however to have them removed before they emerge from the gums. This will avoid a painful and more complicated procedure.

While it’s true that wisdom teeth can cause problems Dr. Charchuk and his South Calgary Dental Office know there is no one-size-fits-all approach to this. The trouble with wisdom teeth is that they are the final molars to come in and quite often not enough room for them. If there is inadequate space for them, the neighboring molar can interfere with the emerging wisdom tooth. X Rays will determine whether they need to go or are able to stay. Most wisdom teeth appear between the ages of 17 – 21.

Typically, the removal of Wisdom Teeth takes about 45 minutes. You will be administered a general or local anesthesia . Most often the dentist will need to cut into the gum to remove the tooth, this will be stitched up afterward. You will experience very little pain and discomfort following your procedure. Most unpleasant symptoms go away within the first few days. Full recovery takes a couple weeks.
